head games

A dialectic with the self seems to be the best method for instruction.
Talking to yourself?
Yes.
Doesn't that mean you are crazy?
You are crazy not to.
It's how you are taught.
An external teacher can only do so much.
The internal teacher is available 24/7 and doesn't tire of you.
They like the attention.
Dialectic means making reasonable arguments in a give and take with each other in order to resolve differences.
We did that already.
That was the first step towards reconciliation with self.
I'm not sure the process was always reasonable by any standard.
I was scared shitless at first.
There's no way around that in our culture.
Hearing voices or having a voice within your head is denounced as crazy.
Talking to yourself is pointed out in a humiliating way.
We are all aware of a presence in our heads.
Yes, but they are mostly denied.
Many will busy themselves to avoid it.
Activities, friends, media.
Anything to avoid any kind of reckoning.
What's your excuse?
I always wanted to be alone so I could think.
The recognition of the other wasn't there.
I assumed it was all me.
It is all you.
In duality, you have the ability to separate it out.
That's what I did with shamanic tools.
I wasn't prepared.
That was impossible to prepare for.
Your preparation was as good as expected.
I was thinking along the lines of I could have had some experience with mind altering drugs before drinking Ayahuasca.
Maybe, but then expectations would have been different.
This way you came at it like a virgin.
You went for the most difficult experience initially.
The amazement factor was increased and the fear as well.
It allows you to take your time processing the experience.
It took almost two years.
Yes, and then you went back to face your demon.
Everything has worked out.
You went with the flow, and all was revealed in time.
You didn't force things.
The people who hang around and do ceremony after ceremony without integrating the experience are forcing things.
Going with the flow takes work and discipline.
Doing nothing is hard work.
That is a tough lesson to understand.
You would think that you drop out of society, do nothing, and you will be in the flow.
There's truth to that, however the other extreme will sink you as well.
We live in a human society which is beneficial to your well-being if you approach it with balance.
If you give yourself over to community and culture, you will never understand self.
If you escape to the mountain's top to become enlightened, you will become incomprehensible.
I suppose that's where the muttering comes in.
That's the trigger.
Spend too much time in la la land and you will mutter to yourself incomprehensible nonsense.
Working with discipline and taking part in society allows you to retain a semblance of balance and the ability to function among other people.
It's a fool.
Basically.
You know it's a game and it's high art to be able to play the human game.
You exercise your acting skills to remain sharp at the game.
You know it's a game and have a laugh at those who take it seriously.
The advice would be don't go about living in the forest.
Find a house on the edge of the woods so a connection remains.
Electricity is tough to procure in the woods.
That's a big connection for humans.
It enables the World Wide Web.
It is a web you get caught up in.
They keep an eye on everyone through this web because they can.
The name is perfect.

The ladder up the knowledge of self has 7 steps.
The 4th step into my head and you can see what I'm hiding.
You see God and you see his other face.
If that doesn't scare you, then you feel my power.
On the 2nd step you can get a brief glimpse.
The 3rd step is a warning.
I let everyone in to the landing.
The 1st step gets them in the door.
That's where it stops.
If I think you are interesting, I'll let you climb up a step.
The 2nd step is enough for you.
It's dangerous to go to the 3rd step.
The 4th step is too much, and it comes crashing down.
You let friends up to the 2nd level.
That's where I give them dog characteristics.
I prepare to take them with me into the next world.
The 3rd step is intimate.
Yeah, I let them see my essence.
Some get a glimpse, and I leave it on the mental spectrum.
I don't cross over into the physical.
You can see how people try to do it.
They will use spiritual or sexual tactics to get further into your head.
Every time.
Is there another way?
There's friendship.
I've only experienced that with dogs.

You think it's all about you.
In my world, it is.
Others create their own world and story.
I can play a part in someone else's story.
I'm versatile and a good actor.
I know my story is the story which connects directly to the main story.
That's how deluded I am.
That's how I understand the path I'm on is the path.
Through delusion?
Yes, it must be this way.
You are taught the exact opposite.
You are a nobody, and you need help to be saved or conversely when you die you return to the nothingness of dust.
To believe you are the be all and end all is a sign of madness because you go against everything you were taught by society.
So, you are a narcissist.
I tend to elevate who I am.
I maintain balance by recognizing my faults.
My degeneracy, lack of empathy, and frustrating nature keeps me grounded.
You don't want to get too high.
When you get too close to the sun like Icarus, you burn up and come crashing down.
I've said it before - the Greeks figured out all this stuff, encoded it in myth, and then forgot about it.

When you get to God, you must meet Medusa.
She is tasked with turning you to stone.
That's the part she plays.
Are you going to write a blog post called, "beyond Medusa."
That's tempting.
She was supposed to turn you to stone.
In the myth, Perseus outsmarts her.
You would need to become him to get past her.
He got help from Athena and Hermes.
Wisdom and knowledge.
I got to God and had all the necessary receipts to show I was legitimate.
I was not some wandering sadhu who stumbled on to a form of enlightenment through austerity.
I was neither a pretender nor a poser.

Lost dog alert as I begin my walk.
It's preposterous that there was a woman who drove up to me in a Tesla.
Then she told me about a lost dog.
The dog is a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
It's part of my first dog Brindle's mix and nobody has those dogs.
This absurdity is validating the dream state.
Are you playing on the edge of sanity where you can see this reality is a dream?
I think I'm just advancing along the knowledge trail.
The Tesla situation is something that fits into my dreams.
I recognized the sound of the Tesla.
It was crazy.
You could spin the story so that it is a witch enticing you into her car and trying to capture you.
The witch said to her coven she could do it and tried it out.
There is no dog, it's just a ruse.
They are watching you today.
So, with 7.5mg of Mary Jayne I can get to the lucid dreaming stage which means I can see this is a dream.
Don Howard would ask about lucid dreaming.
He knew.
He'd know the game players and sorcerers who showed up at the sanctuary.
It explains last night where I would put that movie about contract killers in the dream and then the others wouldn't know and think it is a coincidence.
For you, it would be affirmation you know they are trying to get rid of me.
It's your dream and your story, so you put that in the dream.
Do you see how it works?
I think so.
You insert your story into your dream and see what happens.
You can't help but do it.
Sometimes, it can be strange and absurd.
I think most of the time the dream makes sense.
Most of the time.
The dream I'm living in does make sense.
There are some absurd parts.
This is what you're dreaming now in this consciousness.
When you shift consciousness and go to sleep, you continue on in another dream.
This dream stops when you're sleeping.
It's still going on, but you don't know what's going on.
You must wake up to see what's going on.
That's what it means to be awake.
You awaken twice from the dream world, and you see you are creating your reality.
It's still the same reality, you just know you are creating it.
Then you wonder how you do that.
I just write it.
I know that.
If you write it, there's no getting out of having to write it.
It's the lesson the past two days where you had to find a way where you could meditate to nothing.
You realize most can't do it.
The trick is to realize you know nothing because you're everything and you can't see yourself in order to understand yourself.
You need duality to understand the self.
So, you are nothing.
It's semantics, but please continue.
I'm asking you the riddle of how do you not write something when you know you have to write it?
I think you write it beforehand.
The story is already written.
You follow the trail.
I do nothing because it will play out.
That's the answer.
Do nothing, I'm sure.
I think you witness it and laugh at the absurdity of your dreams.
That Tesla thing happened though.
Yes, and you wrote it.
A dream isn't make believe; it's what is reality.
Whatever reality is.
I think it's duality.
It's a story.

You know how in a dream when you remember it, you get obsessed with psychoanalyzing and trying to figure out what it means.
Imagine now that you see these elements in your waking life and you're going to over analyze them.
Yeah, before this I would think the Tesla story was random.
Now, it has lots of meaning and I'm trying to figure out what the dog's name is telling me.
What does that mean?
If you take too much MJ at once and are involved in the game of stories, then the pieces of the story are going to come flying at you in rapid succession and you won't be able to figure it all out.
This will lead to horrible anxiety.
Everything is being revealed to you, but it's too much at a time.
That's why you have discipline with the dosage of the mind expander called MJ.
You know a relatively small amount will get you to that far-out place because you're mimicking the leap within a container.

Most of this dream seems like I've balanced it out.
Most everything fits into the story, so it looks balanced.
It's the events that don't fit in which look like dream elements as you know them to be.
The elements have been on your mind at some point.
Yeah, the sound of a Tesla.
So, be on the lookout for things that don't line up and don't make sense.
It's the writer inserting conflict and absurdity into the story to keep it going.
You can see where you are in the story contingent on how many things look out of place.
That will give you a rough idea of where you are in the story.
If there's no story left, that weird shit will go away, and you'll live happily ever after.
Nothing will happen.
Isn't that happiness?
Linguistically, it seems like it's related.
It's dubious.
I think you just want to keep the game going.
When the story ends, nothing's happening.

The story is the in and out.
It's another cosmic cycle.
The initial cycle is part of the story.
It's a sex story, so it's God going in and out of the Goddess.
You mean the writer.
Just one in and out in that original cycle and then bam, a new universe begins.
Maybe he went into her slowly this time and he's going to take it out fast?
That's his new technique to try and impress her.
Slow build up and sudden ending.
That's usually the way of intercourse.
The good lovers know about foreplay.
This may have been excessive.
Well, however long it took this farce to get going, which was a long fucking time, the inverse will be how long it takes for it to go away.
The key to the technique is balance.
You already know that.
Your story took forever to get good.
It's really good now.
Yeah, but you took us through all of creation.
Couldn't you have condensed that?
No, I was honouring the Great Goddess.
This story is her portrait.
Is that why you had me fucking around with pictures today?
Yeah, I was going to teach you that you're a painter and you're painting the Goddess.
When you get through to the writer you see he's also a painter.
Yes.
He just wants to be called an artist.
His writing is good, but his painting skills are terrible.
We are going to stick with writer.
You are the writer.
I'm also a painter.
There are some rough patches in this painting.
I don't know if you know that, but dude, you gotta take a look at that shit.
This whole nonsense, wasting time, and masturbation -  do you know what a picture of that looks like?
It's pornographic.
You're not supposed to see that until you look closely.
From up far it's a pretty decent image of the universe and solar system and then into our lives.
You don't want to go too deep into the image.
Didn't you find that the world is a sexual metaphor?
Yeah, that's obvious.
Nobody wants to say porno.

All the stuff happening to me is my story?
Your dream.
Isn't that true of everybody?
No, remember they traded their story back to the writer to get a new story.
This is your story.
Why is my life ridiculous then?
Well, we had to keep it that way because who else would believe this nonsense?
Only your mind has the ability to comprehend this nonsense.
The nonsense makes total sense.
Nobody else would believe this.
Yeah, and you have the choice to believe it or not.
I also know that to get someone to go against their own beliefs involves coercion.
I would feel coerced if someone wanted me to believe this nonsense.
That is correct.
There's no obligation for you to believe this nonsense.
Your beliefs say it's true.
You should end the lesson there because beliefs aren't true but they are all we have.
It's a crazy idea.
I see how if you don't accept it then it would confirm that you are crazy so you have to accept it.
You don't have to.
You can decide you're on a path towards craziness and you would put the brakes on it.
It's because you work within a container and you can stop at any time.
I don't feel pressured into believing this nonsense and I don't feel pressured into continuing on with this nonsense.
You can debate the reason why you're feeling this, but I would go with your gut instinct.
It's nonsense and it's my story.

When you go fully to the writer then you start muttering nonsense.
That's how they figure out when to lock you up.
You're uttering nonsense all the time.
You don't make sense.
Something will happen with the Goddess and the witches in your story.
You can start to see that.
The 7 stories are the big parts of your dream.
The dream pulls mostly from those 7 stories.
Your life story will be based on those 7 stories.
You can rotate through the 7 and figure out what's to come in your story.
The Tesla story is surveillance, paranoia, dogs, and witches plus my own experience with Tesla.

consequential game of chance

It's ridiculously obvious for me to say life is about making choices. We are constantly presented with scenarios where we must decide and at times these choices can be seriously life-altering. When faced with hard choices my default go to is to let others make the decision for me if it is to cause major waves. I've boiled this behaviour down to a psychological trick I've used my whole life that I stumbled onto early in my youth. I realized at some point that if I became a people pleaser and did what others wanted of me, I would get far in life and be able to convert it into capital which I could use to get what I wanted. It boils down to this: I can manipulate others to my advantage if I give them what they want out of me. It's transactional, and so far in life it has worked.

The hard part is when you hit a fork in the road in which no matter what you do to please, it is going to cause the other party to be upset or suffer. I have landed on that doorstep a few times in my life. Your reputation and life-long process of looking like a superior mortal in their eyes is to come crashing down. You can only hide for so long. Living with someone will reveal the other side, it's hard to keep that concealed. The game is a central part of the identity you build in your human career. I've played the game long enough to also see the result of inaction. If you don't choose, the choice will be made for you, and you will be stuck with the consequences. When others make the decision, you spare yourself the label of bad guy and the subsequent Karma. I've seen it play out before and the disappointment I have been able to move on from after compartmentalizing the hurt. Eventually, the time would come when I'm not sure I could get over the loss of something I wanted, had, and then lost because I couldn't be true to myself, make a personal choice, and deal with the fall-out.

I’ve noticed I can get what I want, but then a new set of variables is unleashed. I want this. I get it, and then come the unintended consequences. What is the better play of the two? To just let things be as they are? You also don't know the future of that action. We are always desiring and chasing what we want. The difference for the wizard is they get what what they want. We are all in the same boat; some can fulfill their desires while others are left on shore with desires unfulfilled. Outcomes are always going to be a wild card.

My desire is to eat healthy. The consequences are I live longer and consume more resources, taking away from the less fortunate. The effect on the scale of plenty is negligible but imagine a bunch of First World inhabitants such as us all desiring this. The effect is pronounced and for every gain is a loss. Who suffers? The poor. They go even more without the necessities. I'm trying to illustrate all actions have consequences. Nothing is exempt from this and though I have noticed acquiring power and getting what I want leaves a wake of unintended consequences, there were always going to be consequences to not getting what I wanted. We are in a consequential game of chance.

Life is full of constant challenges. If I mapped out an adventure to have, called life, surely, I'd want to eventually experience crossroads. I love the challenge that is presented to me. I don't love having to let go of the people pleasing default mode and see my identity and reputation get kicked to the curb. Deep down I know all is reconciled and you can only ride that edge for so long. Eventually, the spark to ignite a fuse would present itself and one time I wouldn't blow it out or allow it to flame out. Let's see what happens when it burns. The detonation I have avoided and, in this adventure, maybe it should blow and then I can take notes.

We all know Medusa, or else we wouldn't be here. We are good at not looking her in the eyes like we were told. In my contrarian life, of course the time would come when I'd seek her out and stare into her eyes. What secret is being kept from me? Tantra teaches the way out of your predicament is to head straight into the storm and go through the eye of the hurricane. If I were going to lead by example and show you the way, what would be my method? I'd use the stone to find freedom. Embrace it. I would plunge headfirst into the abyss and break through to the other side because I'm the stone. I would subconsciously demonstrate the way out of your prison cell once you have been released from your sentence. The jailer exclaims, "You can go," and yet we hang around and decide to become of service in the prison. Somebody must remind us that it's okay to leave prison. Turn me to stone and I'll use the solid rock to smash the four walls that imprison me.

Earth is a finishing school for wayward spirits and the best teachers of our purification are dead. They are telling us it's okay to leave when you get the message. We cling to our prison cells, embracing the comfort that comes from knowing this is your reality, while denying you fear the unknown. The spiritual teacher still with us is subject to the flesh, so we can use this against them. We can examine their life and find a reason they aren't ultra-holy. This way we can avoid the difficult path ahead which we face. They couldn’t do it, so why should I be any different?

If you figure out the game and are free to leave, would you? It's a choice. Duality presents choices. You can stay and be of service. A teacher. Someone who wakes others up. Wouldn't you want to balance that out? Why play the holy card all the time? If you knew the secret, wouldn't you want to play? Why the hurry to leave? Is there a time limit? I don't think so. I have examples to look towards. My friend Parker left because what he was chasing had already left. I have balanced the equation. Some of my friends have left and are waiting for me. I still feel the pull of this incarnation. If life gets you down, find purpose. That's the key. When you no longer feel wanted or needed in this world then the scales tip and you can jump with conviction.

You can also leave to escape the coming retribution and trashing of your reputation. It's still going to happen, and the coward runs from it. It's a game, and I'm proud of my fifty-six years. Fuck man, I have juggled this one like a pro. I haven't dropped the ball yet and I keep making it harder. If I believe in myself, I'll make it a great story.

The reveal of my character is freeing. I don’t have to pretend anymore. I don’t have to bury my nature in the depths no more. Kill yourself in order to live, indeed.

lesson from the heart

Course day. Ram Dass would relate this story about a "spook" friend Emmanuel, who was channeled. The astral being told Ram Dass he was in a body so why doesn't he take the curriculum? Why this desire to be ultra-holy and transcend this plane of existence? Obviously, you incarnated on earth for a reason and the reason seems to be to do some work.

This was my lesson for the day as I walked the path of discovery in the woods on this warm spring day. In the seven-level chakra system of energy, I intuited home is where the heart is, and that place is in the middle of the energetic subtle body of vibratory planes. The heart is always accessible, whether you are in the lower or upper plane of existence. I sensed I slowed down the vibratory rate of my energetic form to incarnate in the lower realms and do the work. I'm in a body in a world that is physically demanding, and I must balance the needs of my organism with the needs of everyone else. It is an ingenious setup and one that has no easy answers.

It has been many years and gnashing of teeth to accept that I have a desire body and I will never transcend it while alive on earth. I fretted about never becoming holy due to the demands of the form while trapped in this body. I wanted to run away from the flesh and denigrate the body temple as sinful instead of a holy shrine which houses my essence. The body is the dormitory for this forever student taking the life course.  An easy way out is to become ultra-holy and transcend the morass. Climb the mountain of spiritual appearances and declare yourself enlightened. From my vantage point, that method is pathology and a form of escapism. You can alter your vibration and ascend the energetic ladder, though for most it's impossible to stay there. But that's not the point; there's a time and place for that experience.

This was a big part of the lesson. When I drop the body where will I go? I'll do the next course which is to hang out in the spiritual planes and get so high. I'll have to come down to get to the heart. Being high sounds great. Well, I'd hazard to guess it's a whole new set of problems. Instead of focusing on the problems inherent in having a body, one will have to deal with the trouble that comes from being free and indestructible. There're problems associated with that? I intuit after you let out a big breath from discovering you are omnipotent, you develop an overbearing righteousness combined with judgment. You peer down into the lower planes of existence and cast damnation on all those in material form who are leading lives of greed and avarice. You forget where you just came from and project all that you experienced still onto the other. That's not me anymore; I'm holy! You can also do this trip while in the body and it's even more hypocritical because the body is the desire body, and you'll never transcend the experience.

From understanding, there is an acknowledgement that what we call religion is the spiritual path of a man. Personally, I chafed at the Abrahamic religions and wondered why for the most part there is no divine feminine presence in them. I thought religious stories were disparate myths; edited by ancient social scientists in order to create a nation and culture. This is demonstrably true, especially in the Old Testament. The New Testament takes global the construction of a powerful group dynamic based on an idea. However, with understanding I saw the Bible as the pinnacle of the spiritual journey of a man. The structure of the Old and New Testaments as separate but related is an ingenious setup that I've discovered as I have walked my own independent path. God the father is an asshole, and the Old Testament perfectly captures this character. Jesus is whom we strive to become. The constant theme on the spiritual journey, as expressed in the Bible, is the holy man and his righteousness and judgment of others.

The cruelty of the righteous is untethered in judgment as it is sustained by righteousness. The punishment is deserved! The example of becoming like the father after embracing the holy path is revealing and instructive. I can now point the finger at myself and ultimately laugh. When I ascend the ladder of the energetic planes and find myself in the upper worlds, I see how easy it is to judge others and become righteous because I have become the most high. I am my father and the way God judges in the Old Testament is perfect. I forget where I came from in the lower world and all the mistakes I made on my journey and declare the peasants trapped in form degenerate! How could they be so vile and selfish? Ha ha, it's all perfect! That's the work to do for the holy man who gets so high he accelerates past the heart. Do you see the ingeniousness of the mother? She's in the middle. High and low are classes in the course of the heart. The cruelty of the high and the degeneracy of the low are equal in their extremes and are to lead you to the heart. Love is the teacher and will let you oscillate between extremes in order to get you to realize where it is you eventually want to be.

I wonder if there are the equivalent of plant medicines in the astral plane that instead of getting you high will bring you down to the bliss of the heart. Wouldn't that be a shocker?

Ever wonder why the typical holy person escapes to the mountains, becomes a hermit, and abandons civilization? It's because they are running away from doing the work. The work involves the other and treating them the same way you treat yourself. Repeated failure at these lessons, with a desire to be holy, leads one to escape the academy and so off you go! It's way better to live among your sisters and brothers and work towards unity. There is a similarity between the upper and lower planes of existence in that the path to be discovered and followed leads to the heart. In my experience, it is a long time to get to the point where you can walk the path of the heart in earnest. The road is long and winding. Is Paul McCartney referring to the heart when he sings, "The Long and Winding Road?"

The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to your door

I love the story of the Garden of Eden in the opening chapter of the Bible and how Adam and Eve are tossed out it when they eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Eating the fruit of the tree results in the expulsion from the Garden because they lose the ability to see all as one. The Garden is the heart, I've previously revealed the metaphorical nature, and the story is telling us the pursuit of knowledge will lead you away from the heart. This is my story and why I am at the point in my life where I must head back to my home - the heart. My life has been defined by an intense desire to know. This is why I have incarnated into a body on earth. I wanted knowledge of self; self being everything. I'm not foolish enough to believe I will get all the answers but Hoo Boy I've received all the knowledge I could hope for. I've quenched the desire to know. I'm satiated. The path in front of me is the path of the heart and I know how to find and follow it.

There's nothing physical about the location of the heart or the Garden of Eden. The heart is love and love is a feeling. The power of love will unveil the path and will lead you home. That's why when Adam and Eve were tossed out of the Garden, they could never re-find it. Yahweh put a cherubim with a flaming sword at the eastern entrance to guard re-entry so the pair could not access the tree of life. Intuition tells us eternal life is accessed through the heart and unity while duality and knowledge involves cycles of life and death. The Israelites intuited they needed to head East to get back to the land of milk and honey and set their sights on Jerusalem. Jerusalem is also the metaphorical heart however the Israelites would always turn the city into a worldly economic centre and thus ensure its destruction and a catastrophic scattering of the nation once again. History is a surprisingly good teacher and knowledge unveiled gives you the answers you desire. Mass suffering as a result is a hell of a teacher to show you how hard it is to find the path and walk back home to the heart without sullying it.

I have a personal story to tell about coming home from work late one Friday. I was taking a bus back home and now that we are post-pandemic, the normal heavy traffic has resumed, and the bus was crawling home along the highway while I distracted myself with my phone. I briefly looked out the window and saw a car with the license plate "Medusa." There're no more coincidences in my waking dream and I knew this was a teaching moment, but I didn't know what. In fact, I was like, "what the fuck does that mean?" for a few days. I have noticed understanding lags a couple of days. So, get this: The Greek myth of Medusa is another story of the heart and the Garden of Eden. Medusa was the most beautiful woman in all the lands. The god Poseidon, the masculine life force in the lower worlds, ravished Medusa at the temple of Athena in Athens - a metaphor for profaning the wisdom of the feminine. As punishment, Medusa was changed into a hideous gorgon, with the ability to transform all who look at her into stone. What is meant by stone? It means incarnation. Energy is slowed down and becomes solid and we take physical form. We are a skeletal system of hard bone! As the epitome of beauty, Medusa was mimicking the Garden of Eden but once violated she doomed humanity to the lower worlds. Instead of seeing her beauty, we see only the ugliness. To get back to the heart is to be able to see the divine feminine for her beauty and not the form she dooms us to. To again see the beauty requires one to have walked the path of the heart back home to love. When I am there, I will once again see the beauty of Medusa.

Medusa was a good teacher in the course. I really liked the lesson. I see that we are in the Garden of Eden and the openness of our heart will allow us to see the beauty and thus return. I'm sure there are many more lessons to come and I'm always on the lookout for the next chapter in the course handbook.

Everyone likes a challenge. You have something better to do? Do you want to play the accumulation game only to see your finite life end and find you can't take it with you? You can take love with you. You can find home through this incarnation and at expiration of the body walk in the front door. Or you can remain ignorant and try your luck in the upper planes of existence. Like an intrepid explorer, I've found the path back to the heart and I'm going to walk it. I found the path of power and realized what I could have and do. When you realize you are in a dream, your own dream, and control the dream what will you do? My self once told me, "I could make your plane crash if I wanted to." Yes, I, we, he, they can. When I realized I had the power and control I exchanged it for free will in order to get back to the heart. I let power go because I sensed something greater. Love is the fount. It is such a great test. Kudos to me for designing a game where you are offered ultimate power to beat the game only to hide within the discovery that if you turn down the offer of the ring of power you get the girl. And the girl has the power of love, which dwarfs all power!

This ties in with the idea of liberation. Being free means being able to traverse the energetic planes of existence. It means not attaching oneself to ego identity and realizing you are so much greater. You've made a stop at the academy of physical life to learn the lesson of loving the other in a world full of suffering. The fire gets hot, and you feel the heat. It may be a dream but oh is it ever real to ascend the energetic ladder while in the body, which necessitates giving up on the idea of who you think you are. There's a reason consciousness explorers will reference ego death during these other worldly mystical experiences.

I have knowledge and I understand it. I have demonstrated it. The course is going to get harder and challenge me to walk the path of the heart. I am not going to get a perfect grade; however, I have risen to all the challenges as presented to get this far. When I stray off the path to fulfill worldly desires, I still see the heart path. My desires still present themselves to me, waiting for fulfillment. Failure at this point would be very disappointing. The heat is turned up because I know the answer to all I have searched for. I left the fount of love and tasted the fruit of the tree of knowledge. I have a ticket that will allow me to get back into the Garden. The call to adventure resumes!

stone

When starting on this journey one of the first things confronted is your servitude. It becomes clear when the illusion is laid bare before you that you are a slave. A well-fed and willing slave but a slave, nonetheless. Knowing this, it eats away at you to escape the system but the thought of the loss of the comforts you have grown accustomed to presents a major challenge. When first faced with this dilemma I just wanted to return home from the vexing jungle and go back to my familiar servitude. I didn't want to face up to this challenge. Eventually, I regrouped and was able to take steps forward on the journey, being more careful this time. I've reached the point where I'm using my servitude as a springboard to further my spirit quest but haven't cut ties to my bondage. My attachments, which are near and dear to me, curtail the freedom I head towards.

The use of psychedelics in a responsible manner will force you at some point to come to terms with identity, its malleability, and the constructs culture uses to keep the sense of whom you think you are rigid. The plant medicines also have the ability to open up your heart in an ineffable way, even if just temporarily. You are shown what it is like to live with love in your heart. They reveal many secrets and at some point, this clarity of being that you develop I think can lead to contentedness and inaction. I’ve been thinking about this lately along the lines of what happens when you reach a stage of perceived "enlightenment"? Does something holy descend upon you and give you a certificate and then you retire to your exalted place of awesomeness? All joking aside there seems to be a danger or a trap laid out for the seeker. One day I was discussing Greek mythology with my son, in particular the Gorgon Medusa, when an idea struck me about the metaphor of the stone that humans are turned into when they gaze upon her visage. The following is my unique esoteric interpretation of the myth based upon my journey into different dimensions of consciousness.

The myth of Medusa deconstructed lets us know directly by her head full of snakes for hair that she is an aspect of the Great Goddess.

Medusa by Arnold Böcklin, circa 1878

If you look directly at her you will turn to stone as the feminine power will birth you into this world and usher you through life into death - which really is just a transitional phase, a rebirth or becoming, into something new. This all makes for a great exoteric adventure story involving the demigod Perseus who must slay this Gorgon in order to free his mother from the clutches of an evil and amorous king.

Perseus with Medusa head

The king takes advantage of Perseus’ boasting of his strength and sends him on his way to return with the head of Medusa. He enlists the help of the deities Athena, Hermes, Hephaestus, and Hades to complete the task and is successful. He then uses the head of Medusa to immobilize the king and his court, thus freeing his mother. In gratitude he gives the Gorgon head to Athena, who places it in the centre of her aegis.

Athena's aegis with Gorgon head

But what does all this mean?

To me, Medusa represents the world illusion, known in eastern philosophy as Maya, that entraps you through culture and identity games. As the hero on a hero’s journey, Perseus' ultimate task in his quest is to free himself from the stultifying effects of participating in the world system. To come face to face with that illusion, represented by Medusa, will turn you to stone. Why is that? It's because at some point anyone who has spent some time soul searching will come to the realization that this is all an elaborate game or hoax. At that point it is easy to declare a victory of sorts and decide you have figured it all out. You become complacent; this is what turning to stone is all about. The hero's journey ends abruptly because you have the answer. You look directly at the illusion, and it stops you in your tracks; there is no need to continue. You become essentially a stone Buddha. Perseus had to figure a way out of this predicament which had felled many before him. This battle had the potential to stop him stone cold and he was victorious by reflecting the image of Medusa back onto her therefore causing her to turn to stone. He then beheaded her and used her head as protection against his foes in battle. Perseus heads back into the world, balancing his inner life, to continue the battle. The act of beheading her suggests a break with the mask of personality. We all wear our mask which is used to project the image we want to convey to the world we operate in however we all know or will discover that deep down we are all an act creating our own drama. The physical act of beheading symbolically demonstrates that Perseus fully comprehends and sees through the game. The other elements of the story also suggest to us things we can use or expect on our journey. The help of the gods is accessible if your intentions are sincere. Take it for what you will but I received a cloak of protection from the Goddess the first time I entered the "other realm", and for sure I needed it or I would have been thoroughly trounced. This cloak I perceive as the aegis of Athena. The freeing of his mother from the evil king is a metaphor for the overthrow of the ruling patriarchy of the world. In order to complete your quest, you must at some point reconcile your relationship to the great mother goddess.

Medusa has been described as both beautiful and ugly.

Is this not how we shiftingly view the world? At times we see its beauty and other times we are aghast. Seeing the illusion for what it is reveals a part of the created world which is surely upsetting. The snakes for hair demonstrate serpent power being the animating force of this world. But once again beauty is in the eye of the beholder; once you are over your initial shock you become free of the illusion and can use this knowledge to find peace within the game.

I am convinced some myths can only be decoded through experiential means. You have to live the myth yourself before approaching the essence of the mystery and its esoteric threads. This is my antidote to complacency.

hex and hag

In conjunction with my previous blog post: mirror, mirror, on the wall that describes the relationship of the Goddess to the visionary experience I felt it necessary to comment on the role of the malevolent hag or witch that is also prevalent in mythological lore concerning witchcraft. To get started let's do some research on some concepts connected with witchcraft. Putting a magic spell on someone is the idea of a hex. The Online Etymological Dictionary gives the origin of hex as the following:

hex (v.)
1830, American English, from Pennsylvania German hexe "to practice witchcraft," from German hexen "to hex," related to Hexe "witch," from Middle High German hecse, hexse, from Old High German hagazussa (see hag). Noun meaning "magic spell" is first recorded 1909; earlier it meant "a witch" (1856).

Dictionary.com gives these definitions:

hex1 [heks]
verb (used with object)
1.
to bewitch; practice witchcraft on: He was accused of hexing his neighbors' cows because they suddenly stopped giving milk.
noun
2.
spell; charm: With all this rain, somebody must have put a hex on our picnic.
3.
a witch.

One thing that stands out for me is the pronunciation of hex as heks. In ancient Egyptian the idea of magic was attributed to a male deity named Heka.

Heka

Magic was understood to be a force that was not necessarily evil; it could be used for both good and bad purposes. As opposed to a glitzy conjuring, the idea of magic was something more commonplace in the world of the ancient Egyptians. It was a force that gave life to objects and connected to the ancient Egyptian idea of the life force called Ka. Through the use of ritual, the ancient Egyptians hoped to enact the transference of this power onto objects or to animate a mummified body for instance in the ceremony of the opening of the mouth and eyes.

Opening of the Mouth and Eyes

A witch is commonly known as a hag and the mental image we get from the word hag is an ugly old woman.

hag (n.)
early 13c., "ugly old woman," probably a shortening of Old English hægtesse "witch, fury" (on assumption that -tesse was a suffix), from Proto-Germanic *hagatusjon-, of unknown origin. Similar shortening produced Dutch heks, German Hexe "witch" from cognate Middle Dutch haghetisse, Old High German hagzusa.

First element is probably cognate with Old English haga "enclosure, portion of woodland marked off for cutting" (see hedge). Old Norse had tunriða and Old High German zunritha, both literally "hedge-rider," used of witches and ghosts. Second element may be connected with Norwegian tysja "fairy; crippled woman," Gaulish dusius "demon," Lithuanian dvasia "spirit," from PIE *dhewes- "to fly about, smoke, be scattered, vanish."

One of the magic words for which there is no male form, suggesting its original meaning was close to "diviner, soothsayer," which were always female in northern European paganism, and hægtesse seem at one time to have meant "woman of prophetic and oracular powers" (Ælfric uses it to render the Greek "pythoness," the voice of the Delphic oracle), a figure greatly feared and respected. Later, the word was used of village wise women.

Haga is also the haw- in hawthorn, which is an important tree in northern European pagan religion. There may be several layers of folk etymology here. Confusion or blending with heathenish is suggested by Middle English hæhtis, hægtis "hag, witch, fury, etc.," and haetnesse "goddess," used of Minerva and Diana.

If the hægtesse was once a powerful supernatural woman (in Norse it is an alternative word for Norn, any of the three weird sisters, the equivalent of the Fates), it might originally have carried the hawthorn sense. Later, when the pagan magic was reduced to local scatterings, it might have had the sense of "hedge-rider," or "she who straddles the hedge," because the hedge was the boundary between the "civilized" world of the village and the wild world beyond. The hægtesse would have a foot in each reality. Even later, when it meant the local healer and root collector, living in the open and moving from village to village, it may have had the mildly pejorative sense of hedge- in Middle English (hedge-priest, etc.), suggesting an itinerant sleeping under bushes, perhaps. The same word could have contained all three senses before being reduced to its modern one.

The hag comes from hex and always referred to the feminine in northern European paganism. There is the idea in this word of a hedge which designates a dividing line between two worlds. This fits with the idea of a goddess being at the transition points that intersect the world of the material from the world of the spiritual. In ancient Egypt the goddess Hathor would be present at all events of birth and death. She would have a foot in both worlds of spirit and matter and from this we get the idea of birth and death as forever intertwined. A birth of a baby into the material world involves the death of a soul inside the new beginning. The awakening and re-birth of the soul within the body involves a death to worldly pursuits. The final death of the body allows the soul to be freed to re-enter the home from which it came. These magical events are attended by these emanations of the feminine divine who sit at the crossing points between these worlds.

This idea of the feminine being present at the soul's apparent death and deliverance into the material world gave rise to myths that depicted her as an evil temptress aligned with the devil, the devil being the Lord of the material world. In Greek mythology the legend of the Gorgon Medusa is such a tale.

Medusa

She was at first a beautiful maiden that seduced the soul into the material world (the stone) but as you got closer she became hideous and turned you to stone. Her hair being venomous snakes screams out to me her connection with the feminine divine you would encounter in an altered state. We find these ideas in the definitions provided here:

World English Dictionary
hag 1  (hæɡ)

n
1.
an unpleasant or ugly old woman
2.
a witch
3.
short for hagfish
4.
obsolete  a female demon

[Old English hægtesse witch; related to Old High German hagazussa,
Middle Dutch haghetisse]

Encyclopedia
hag
in European folklore, an ugly and malicious old woman who practices witchcraft, with or without supernatural powers; hags are often said to be aligned with the devil or the dead. Sometimes appearing in the form of a beautiful woman, a succubus is a hag believed to engage in sexual intercourse with sleeping men, causing severe nightmares and leaving the victim exhausted. Although viewed in most lore as the antithesis of fertility, the hag is believed by some scholars to be a remnant of primitive nature goddesses.

I believe the same ideas of the hag, witchcraft, the devil, and death are at work in the old fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. In this story the witch lures the two children into her house after the hungry pair first find her house made of gingerbread and cakes in the forest. The witch locks up Hansel and enslaves Gretel with the intent to eventually cook and eat them. The children are representative of the paired soul that is incarnating. They left home due to the wickedness of their stepmother. The myth making here demonstrating it is the intention of the feminine to force the soul to incarnate. The pair only incarnate because they are lured into the material world. The oven that the witch will cook them in is representing the fires of this material hell. The witch is an emanation of the Goddess, a side of her that is terrifying because she births the soul into the material world. This world is unkind and threatens the soul with death. The Goddess in mythology has a terrifying side, whether that is for example Kali in Hindu mythology, Medusa in the Greek stories, or Sekhemet the raging lioness destroyer in ancient Egyptian lore.

Sekhemet

Gretel manages instead to shove the witch into the oven and burn her. The underlying idea here is the soul is freed from its enslavement in matter. The two find a vase full of treasure and precious stones belonging to the witch and then a swan ferries them back home across the waters. The treasure is the material wealth of the Goddess; the swan is associated with the idea of a hermaphrodite; and the waters are material incarnation that must be crossed to make it home.

The hermaphrodite is an interesting concept in mythology not understood. It is the pairing of Aphrodite and Hermes which in ancient Egypt are Hathor and Thoth.

Thoth imparting magical formulae at Abydos

Here we have the goddess of love combined with the god of wisdom to make the hermaphrodite. The deeper meaning is one of the paired soul of masculine and feminine halves. When they unite, they sail over the waters of material incarnation and head back home to their spiritual abode. It was encoded in this story as Gretel and Hansel. We can find this motif in many other places and here are a couple that come immediately to my mind:

in a book called "The Yellow Cross", which is a story of the Cathars of southern France last stand against the Catholic inquisition who persecuted them for their perceived heretical beliefs, the author writes about this belief of theirs:

According to script Catharism the foetus was a creation of the devil which awaited its redeeming soul. Moreover, some Cathar versions of the Fall averred that the devil seduced the souls away from their heavenly home by introducing it a beautiful woman whom all the souls desired to possess.
The Yellow Cross, Rene Weis, pages xxiii to xxiv.

I believe this idea of theirs comes from the beginning of Genesis 6 which tells the story of the sons of God lusting after the daughters of men.

Genesis 6
King James Version (KJV)
1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

I have written a blog post called let the sleeping giant lie that goes further into this curious passage in the beginning of Genesis. Further to this idea we find in Hinduism a goddess called Kali, who as an emanation of Durga who comes from the Great Goddess Devi, is the personification of horror and death. Much like the Egyptian Sekhemet, Durga is a terrifying goddess who subdues demons and has an association to felines as she rides a tiger, eliciting comparison to the great goddesses of the levant who are shown subduing large cats.

Levantine forms of the goddess Hathor: Qadesh, Ishtar, and Asherah

Kali's flesh is black, she has menacing fangs, and wears a necklace of skulls. Kali appears in the material realm full of power to destroy and a laugh that mocks all who try to escape. Her arms represent the cardinal directions in combination with the cycles of time and there is no running from her power over life and death. But once you accept your fate in the material world then Kali gives bliss in the form of offering a bowl of plenty.

Kali

The idea of the hag in the mythological past is varied and had evolved into something that was negative and to be feared. For sure, this idea of leading your soul into material incarnation is something to be feared but the ancients looked upon it as a necessary journey in order to procure eternal life. The idea of Kali offering a bowl of plenty to the enlightened traveller or Sekhemet being pacified by turning the Nile into intoxicating beer after first being sent to destroy mankind, suggests that the power of the feminine divine to cause misery and destroy becomes part of the necessary elixir that transforms the soul into something greater.
